DIE SCHONE UND DAS MONSTER
A HOME commission for the fourth annual celebration of the wild, inventive world of artist film.
IMPATV collaborated with electronic musician Andrew Brooks.
The name of the piece was taken from a 8mm film found at a Berlin flea market - literally translating to ‘Beauty and the Monster’.
This title was the impetus for our project and ways in which we could present these ideas to an audience. The result was an experimental live performance encompassing the found 8mm film, 16mm projector, kinetic sculpture, audio reactive visuals and video synthesis each turned on or off throughout the performance, building an immersive environment. Cameras next to each element captured the resulting action which was manipulated live using video hardware and software. The result was projected, the audience watched how the film built to its fast, colourful finale using the various analogue elements.
